Parent Compact

Stratton School-Parent Compact

What is a School-Parent Compact?

A school family compact is an agreement that families, students, and teachers develop together. It explains how families and teachers will work together to make sure all students reach grade-level standards.

Effective Compacts:
  • Link goals to the School Improvement Plan
  • Focus on student learning skills
  • Describe how teachers will help students develop skills using high-quality instruction
  • Share strategies families can use at home
  • Explain how teachers and families will communicate about student progress

Jointly Developed

The families, students, and staff at Stratton Elementary School developed this School-Parent Compact. Teachers suggested home learning strategies, families added ideas to make them more specific, and students communicated to faculty about how they learn best. Meetings and events are annually held to review the compact and make changes based on student needs.

Families are welcome to contribute comments and suggestions at any time.

Build Partnerships

Stratton Elementary has various events throughout the school year in support of student-parent engagement. They include but are not limited to:

  • Open House
  • Lunch on the Lawn
  • Muffins with Moms
  • Donuts with Dads
  • Holiday Lunch
  • Title 1 Night
  • Nine Week Showcase

We look forward to having many more opportunities for our students and parents to engage with our school community.

Communication About Student Learning

Stratton Elementary is committed to frequent two-way communication with families about student learning. Some of the ways you can expect us to reach out are:

  • Daily communication binder/folder
  • Weekly call outs from the principal about events around the school
  • Social media via our social media pages (Facebook and Twitter)
  • Parent-Teacher Conferences in October and March
  • Grade Level Newsletters

Do you have questions about your child’s progress? Contact your teacher by classroom Remind app or their school email address.

Teachers, Families, Students - Together for Success

In the Classroom

In our classrooms, we will work with students and families to support students’ success in reading and math. Some of our key connections with families will be:

  • Communicating with parents via classroom app (Remind) to remind families to work with their child on grade level goals.
  • Providing parent/teacher conference meetings each semester to inform parents about their child’s progress on benchmark testing in reading and math.
At Home

It is important to practice all subjects at home whether it is getting Class Link log-ins from your child’s teacher to practice Lexia and iReady, or asking for Lexia and iReady practice sheets to come home. Students would benefit from spending 15 to 20 minutes two or three times a week reviewing what was learned in the classroom and reading.

Keep open lines of communication with your child’s teacher about their progress and work with them on their homework when it comes home.

Before bed parents can:

  • Read a story
  • Math flash card review
  • Review sight words
  • Ask your child what they learned in school

Students

Stratton Elementary students are working hard to excel in reading and math. In the Fall, 3rd & 4th grade will host a Multiplication Competition to improve math competencies in multiplication. This spring, Stratton will continue TCAP Bootcamp for our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students. This is in preparation for our TCAP testing that starts in April.

We will continue to monitor academic progress in reading and math by reviewing Lexia and iReady data. Lexia & iReady are school-mandated computer learning applications that track literacy and math growth K-5th grade.

Stratton Elementary has also incorporated Stratton University, which encompasses students taking part in being in different colleges. The colleges consist of the College of Resilience, Perseverance, Collaboration, Integrity, Innovation, Determination, and Leadership. Each month, students meet in their assigned college and do team-building activities to bring the student and teacher community together.
